Week #18

October 25, 2011
This week was pretty good! It's like something FINALLY clicked when I hit my 4 month mark. This is my home! This is where I need to be no doubt about it! Transfers are coming up next week. I have been here 4.5 months. I think I might be getting transferred. But we will see! Jaymen, the 15 year old that we baptized received the Priesthood yesterday and is a teacher. He is way tight! Our ward mission leader confirmed the priesthood. My ward mission leader's name is Brother Crabbe, he served his mission in Riverton about 3 years ago! How crazy is that! Honestly, my favorite part about missionary work is seeing the inactive mebmers that we work with come back to church. One of my favorite sister's husband is inactive and after visiting with him this past week he came to church on Sunday. It seriously was like welcoming a brother home!! It was an amazing feeling! I am truly enjoying my time out here in the mission field. I don't know what the heck I would be doing if I was back home! I'm glad to hear that everyone is good. I've almost been out 5 months. I love my companion , he is way cool. The best thing that our family can be doing right now is gaining a stronger testimony of the Bood of Mormon. As you can tell, people are persecuting us. But as long as we have a testimony, it can't be taken away from us. With all the persecution raging, people have forgotten the most simple steps! 1. Faith. 2. Prayer. 3. Church. 4 Charity. These 4 steps will help anyone gain a testimony and knowledge of the Book of Mormon and TRUTHFULLNESS of this Gospel. Jesusus Christ lives, Joseph Smith did restore the church THROUGH our Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ. Thanks so much for the package you sent! I love the pictures! Everyone looks happy and healhty! Thank you for all you do. Commit yourselves!

Week #17

October 17, 2011
I can't believe another week is gone! It was a pretty good week. We have a new investigator named Diamond. He wants to get baptized and said that he has been searching for the true church and loves the feeling he gets when he comes to church! My companion and I taught Gospel Principles class and it was way spiritual. We taught about eternal marriage and there were about 4 people in there that aren't married in the temple and their spouse/girlfriend doesn't want anything to do with the church. Our ward doesn't do a good job with home teaching and stuff like that. One of my favorite sisters went off about how the missionaries are the only ones who go and see her. The class needed to hear that. We helped her and it turned out the whole class started crying and stuff. It made me realize how much I love to help people! We are working very hard. So we have a Marshallese investigator named Miam. We have some extra Marshallese Books of Mormon and I think I'm going to try and learn that language. That would be pretty cool!

Week #16

October 11, 2011
We baptized Jaymen last Saturday. He is a way cool kid. I baptized him and my companion confirmed him. The week went pretty well! I can't believe I've been out 4 months haha! Hawaii is starting to feel like home to me. Which is really good. We have an interview with President Dalton today. Each missionary has one every other transfer. This morning I woke up and prayed to ask for help for my companion and me to find an elect investigator, meaning someone who really was and is prepared for us. I have faith tht will happen! Let's, see, our neighbors across the street fight every day and the cops are called a lot. We find it funny, but is is pretty sketchy at the same time. Not a whole lot else has happened here. So I talked to Vincent and Lesle Brown yesterday telling them how they would get a long with you guys.
The mission really has taught me a lot of things that I would not have learned if I stayed home. I love the scriptures and I love learning. Everytime I think about Jesus Christ, I know He is real. One thing that I have really tried working on is being less judgmental of people. I love the change that I'm seeing in myslelf. Thanks for all you do. Stay strong!

Week #15

October 3, 2011
Things are pretty good. I loved Conference, we watched all 10 hours and I took diligent notes. We watched it at our chapel, it was really cool. They talked about the things I needed to hear. Like being in the world but not of it. We get fed by members every night so we never worry about that. I love hearing about Jake and Melina. For some reason I just have a good feeling about her. And she wants to write me to get to know me more so I definitely approve. We have a baptism this week. 15 year old Jaymen. I'm so stoked! It's been too long since our last baptism, but it will be awesome. Either me or my companion will baptize him. I don't really care who does as long as he gets baptized. My companion and I had to give a talk at a recent Tongan baptism. I hote to be transferred to a Tongan ward sometime. I would love to come knowing Tongan! So we went to Laie last week and went to the temple, it was so beautiful there. The whole time in the temple, I don't know why, but marriage was on my mind. I know I still have awhile but I am excited to get married!
Thanks so much for all you do and for the love you show me!

Week #14

September 19, 2011
Well another week down. Nothing too exciting has happened. My companion, Elder Robbins, and I are staying together another transfer. I really like him, but am getting tired of the area, even though I love the people. So after this transfer I'll be here four and a half months. This transfer we have a new zone leader and both of them are strictly obedient. We haven't had any commitments with any of our investigators. We are working hard. We played basketball with one of our investigators named Thomas. I've definitely grown a lot, I can't wait to see what I'm like in 21 months. I will get to go to to the temple around general conference weekend. You only get to go to the temple four times a year if you are on the islands where the two temples are at. Send some pictures from home so I can see people!

Elder Hudson

Week #13

September 5, 2011
Dear Riverton Drill Team,
I can't thank you enough for the notes you sent me. It definitely made my week! I sure do miss walking into your practices and seeing your bright smiling faces! Haha! I hope everything is going well for you girls as this year is starting off. I definitely wish I could see how you do this year! There will be good times for you girls this year and times where you may struggle. But that's life! I've noticed out here that life is a lot more important than letting struggles get in the way of the important things. Focus on those important things in life. You girls have a great team and great potential this year. Don't let the stupid things get in the way. Just to name a few: drama, boys...enough said? You're a team and will do great things. I'll have my mom update me on everything, well, maybe not "everything", but on some things. Again, I can't thank you girls enough for the letters. It put a smile on my face and it made me work a little harder that day. Girls, know that whenever you have a hard time in life, the BEST person you could ever turn to is your Father in Heaven. I wouldn't be saying that if I didn't know it was true. Keep up the hard work! Can't wait to hear how you do!
Mahalo,
Elder Hudson
P.S. Letters are much appreciated if anyone wants to write me! Haha!

Week #12

Well lets see, we have one investigator with a baptism date for October 8th. His name is Jaymen and he is 15 years old! He is a great kid and loves church. I'm way excited for that. We also have a new investigator named Brian. He and his wife divorced she was a member but he never was. We went over and talked to him and he was sick so we asked if he needed a blessing. He said no and we went on our way. This past week he called us and asked if he could meet with us. He said that nobody had ever asked him if he needed a blessing before and he knew that he needed to change and said he is really considering Baptism. So that sure is a miracle right there!
I've almost been out 4 months, pretty crazy! That's 4 months longer than I thought I would be out. This definitely is the toughest but the most worthwhile thing that I've ever done. I truly have felt myself become a better person and I needed that. I wonder what I'll be like when I come home.
I haven't gotten any packages yet. I'll be looking forward to them! K so, I could use some of my t-shirts, I can wait a little while for you to send them. I just ruined some doing service. Thanks for sending me ties that was a need!
No I didn't hear from Shawn Morley. That's too bad cause I was looking forward on seeing him! Dang it! Maybe another time though. I did get a letter from their daughter Krystal though it was the funniest letter. This is what it said, "Hi Elder Hudson, I wish I could see you in person. I'm doing good just so you know and my teacher is great. How is hawaii? I want to get married in the Hawaii temple. Do you have any cool stories? I would love a story" I'm going to write her back and send her a picture of the Laie Temple. Speaking of which we get to go there this Friday. I'm so excited! It takes 2.5 hours to get there from where we live but I'm so excited to go there! We are working so very hard, and when I work hard I notice my days go a lot better and I'm able to focus more on the things I should be focusing on. I would love my white keds by the way! and my black Nike socks if you can find them. Oh so the church has this great DVD called Mormon Messages, they are the best videos ever! Anyway you could find that for me and send it? We use them in lessons and it really brings the spirit to our investigators. You guys would love them too! Nothing else has really been going on that's too exciting. Some people have wanted to fight us, but we just walk away. People are so prideful here, if they went to the mainland they would be in for a shock. We get to watch general conference at the stake center. at 6 am! it will be good though, I'm excited. Tell everyone from the ward hi. Especially Bishop Nielson and Bishop Lipscomb.
Hawaii is starting to feel home to me now which is good. A lot of people think I'm a local boy haha. My hair is even more blonde.
What else is new at home? how is Jake and Paige? Tell everyone hi for me. How is drill going? Have you found an assistant? I need more girls to write me...haha! Soon enough I'll be able to call home! Have a great week!

Week #11

Well another week down! Nothing too exciting happened. My companion, Elder Robbins and I are staying together another transfer. We get along great. Mom! Yes, I use deodorant and iron my shirts! Seriously! I could use some more ties. I washed 3 of those ties from the Missionary Mall and it ruined them.

This transfer we have a new zone leader and both of them are strictly obedient! Like if you're one minute late for studies they freak out. We haven't had any commitments with any of our investigators. We are working hard. I've definitely grown a lot. I can't wait to see what I'm like in 21 months.

Glad to hear the Birchs' are getting sealed! That's good! I will get to go to the temple around general conference weekend. We only get to go to the temple four times a year, if you are on the islands where the temples are. What else is new at home? How is Rocco?

There are two types of missionaries. The type that only cares about the number and the type that actually cares about the person. We care about the people and are working hard to bring them back.

Send some pictures from home so I can see people! Thanks for all you do!

Love,
Elder Hudson

Week #10

Hello!

Glad it's finally Monday! Sounds like everything is going good back home. Nothing is really new here! Except transfers are coming and people think I'm getting transfered. We'll see. I'm excited but sad at the same time. I've made so many good friends here, I don't want to leave. I'm loving it here! The people are great, the weather is beautiful, what more can you ask for?! Glad everything went good at the homecoming dinner thing. I'm glad the girls got my letter on time.

We are still working with Dolly. We are about to baptize a 15 year old name Jaymin. He has been coming to church for awhile and finally wants to be baptized.

I don't miss home, surprisingly. I can't believe I've been out for three months, it doesn't seem that long, but at the same time it has seemed like forever!

As missionaries we are taught, when in doubt, bare your testimony! You'll never go wrong baring your testimony. It's been quite slow, but still fun. In our pad, we have Elder Tuihalangingie from Oakland, Elder Lyons from St. George and Elder Tui is our district leader. We have way cool Elders out here!

What is the weather like? That's good Nate's (Allred)had his farewell! I'm sure he did great. Did he seem excited? It's so important to be out here. I've seen it bless my life SO much.

Love,
Elder Hudson

Week #9

Hi Everyone,

This week was ok. Something just clicked the other day. I felt like this really is what I need to be doing. It's like another step in my life that I always needed to have been doing. Austin was right when he said there would be good and bad days. This is the most important thing that I can be doing with my life right now. This is the most important thing that we could all be doing in our lives - living the Gospel. Everyone gets caught up in worldly things and they are not important! Sure, I miss things at home, but when it come down to it, they aren't important and I can't take those things with me in the next life. We have the Gospel and each other and that's what is most important.

Time is flying by. I can't believe I've been gone for almost three moths. We helped a married couple move. The wife reminds me of Alice Gibbons so much. Her name is Lesle Brown and her husband is Vincent Brown. He is from Hurricane. They gave us (the missionaries) a couch and we were so excited. Later that night we visited a less active guy that asked us to bless his non-member brother's house that lives by him. He felt an evil spirit there. We walked into the house and there was NO furniture. He just got out of a nasty divorce. So we went back the next day and surprised him with our couch. It was a good feeling - we definitely didn't need the couch.

We have a lot of investigators, but they really aren't progressing. Thanks for putting my name in the temple, dad - it means a lot! I really felt the spirit this week! We are in the process of working with a lady named, Dolly. She's like 50 years old and doesn't shave her armpits!

I love you all. You make me keep going stronger and I couldn't do this without you. Thanks for you examples. Talk to you soon!

Week #8

This week was tough. It's like one week will be really good and I will forget about everything, then the next week I have pure evil on my shoulders. It's so annoying. Yesterday we were tracting near the end of our area and two gangsters were fighting, the one that lost stumbled over by us and his mouth was bleeding, he said "can you please call the police." He kind of spit blood toward us and that freaked us out a little bit.

Sometimes two years seems likes forever away. I know this is where I need to be it's just really hard to appreciate it sometimes. I hope to do better this week.

Love,
Elder Hudson

Week #7

Hi!

I'm writing letters to choke people at home and will send them to you. Choke means "a lot" in pigeon.

This past week went really well. We finally baptized Danielle. I confirmed her in Sacrament meeting on Sunday. The ward here is so awesome. Everyone loves the missionaries. Elder Brough got transferred. My new companion is Elder Robbins from Payson. He knows a girl that I cheered with at Snow named Saige Bertschi. It's a very small world!

I have learned to trust in the Lord which is the most important thing that we could ever do! I'm enjoying it and I'm starting to see the people that I've been sent here for. We are all very blessed. I look at the way we live compared to the people out here. I can't tell you how many 11 and 12 year olds I have seen smoking and drinking. It's so messed up and I can't believe it. We are blessed to be who we are and a part of the true and everlasting gospel.

I wrote a letter for Nate Allred and Justin Welburn. They all wrote me while they were in Fish Lake and I already had these letters ready to send them.

I'm still on the same street and in the same place. I'm in charge of the area cause my new companion hasn't been here before. We have 20 investigators right now. We are working and trying so hard. It's so hard to commit people to coming to church and living the commandments. But we will keep working with them! Elder Robbins and I went to see a lady that Elder Brough never wanted to go see...she is now taking the lessons and she wants to get baptized. The work is good here in Makaha! Elder Robbins is cool, he is definitely country and grew up on a farm. Dad would really like him, haha!

I love the gospel, I love Jesus Christ and my Father in Heaven.

Love,
Elder Hudson

Week #6

This week we had dinner with our favorite family, the Browns. Sister Brown reminds me of Alice Gibbons and Brother Brown is from Hurricane. His name is Vincent, see if the 'shaws know him. This week we committed a girl, Danielle, to baptism finally. They have been working with her for 6 months and she finally decided to get baptized. We visited a man named Jack who was way less active, and while we were teaching him I had a specific prompting to ask him to to come to church Sunday and he said he would. He came and he wants to receive the Melchezidek Priesthood. That alone strenghtened my testimony. Alma 38 helps me when I'm struggling. Read it and you'll see why.

Glad you like the pictures. Sorry it took forever to send them, it's so busy allllll the time! I miss Jake and Austin. Austin looks way grown up and so does Jake. I really liked the pictures of TJ's wedding. Thanks for sending those.

The burning of the pants was that missionary's 18 month mark. 6 months is a tie, one year is a shirt. 18 months is pants and when they are pau ("done" in pigeon) they burn a suit.

The work here is so good! I never want to leave this place! There are so many cool families. The Forsythe's are one of our favorite families to visit. I knew their nephew at Snow - crazy!

I am learning to play the ukelele from Brother Forsythe so I can have some new talent to show the ladies back home.

I can definitely start to feel a change in myself It's a very good change. I definitely look at things a lot different. The Lord is always with us.

Love,
Elder Hudson

Week #5

Hello Family!

My week was pretty good. We had another baptism. His name is Daniel and he is 11 years old. His mom is a member but nobody every taught her kids so we are working with her daughter. Danile kind of looks like Mitchell Gray, it's pretty weird!

Glad to hear Paige spoke in church - I'm sure she did a great job. I hear Jake has a girlfriend? How is she? We are still working with the Baptist family, we are trying to set a date. We have another baptism this Saturday and maybe one next week. Transfers are coming up so I should be getting a new companion.

We live in a house, it has one bathroom and two bedrooms. It's pretty small, but I don't mind it. We eat rice everyday. We don't have a lot of choices for breakfast and lunch, because nobody wants to shop when we go shopping! I love the food here, I haven't eaten a whole lot of crazy things. The best ribs that I have ever eaten were here at a member's home. So good! I definitely need to keep exercising haha! We have a lot of new investigators. One lady named Andrea walked up to us and said, "can you please teach me?" ... so we have been teaching her and are working towards baptism.

This is the hardest thing I've ever done and at times I wonder why we feel like this. If we felt the Spirit all the time, there would be no reason for faith. I hope the Lord humbles me so I can become a better instrument for Him. I look forward to every chance I get to email you! I hope all is well and I want to hear about everything good that's going on at home.

Love,
Elder Hudson

Week #4

My week last week was kind of tough. Satan was working on me very hard. We had President interviews this week and I felt much better after meeting with President Dalton.

I am loving it here. It's awesome. The work is going really good and we had another baptism last Saturday. Her name is Laysha and she is a 10 year old girl. Her dad showed up for her baptism on Saturday but didn't come back for her confirmation on Sunday. Kind of a sad story...but her baptism was awesome!

I love Mondays so I can talk to all of you. I miss you all!

I knew dad and Paige would enjoy Trek. I had a little trek of my own walking 8 miles on Saturday. We have 6 hopeful baptisms in the next three weeks, the work is moving very fast. I've almost been out two months, it honestly doesn't seem like that long. My whole outlook on life has changed. I've realized how vital and important it is to live the Gospel the best we can each day. Our salvation depends on it!

I got a letter from the Primary, I will write them back today hopefully, we are always SOOOOOO busy. Austin Hinton sent me a letter that his mission president mailed to him and it was an answer to my prayers. How is the ward doing? How is drill? I'm loving it here, the weather is beautiful and I have some cool pictures.

Love,
Elder Hudson

P.S. We are teaching the Baptist family again this week and WE WILL commit them to baptism

Week # 3

Hi Everyone,

I'm doing pretty good...it's been a pretty good week. I had my first baptism and confirmation. I was way nervous about both, but they went really well. I confirmed her the next day at church, too. Her name is Ann Marie...pictures coming soon.

A miracle happened this past week. Elder Brough and I were planning for I day and he asked who I thought we should go see. A guy named Shannon came to my mind so we went to visit him, but he wasn't home. His neighbors were in their yard fixing a flat tire on their van so we went and talked to them. They were on their way to the Baptist church for some speaker or something. We asked if we could come teach them a lesson and they said yes. We went back and taught the dad because the rest of the family was gone. We taught him about the restoration and he loved it. His wife wants to sit in on the lessons, too. Turns out they have 13 kids, but only 7 live at home. Oh yeah, and when they went to leave for the Baptist church thing, their van wouldn't start. The Lord works in VERY mysterious ways. This definitely is the hardest thing I have ever done. Satan is always working on us. It's so annoying and I hate it, but I guess it's going to happen.

I remember going to the Fire on the Water last year, it was way fun. Surprisingly I'm not missing summer and all that stuff that much. How is the boating going this summer? I miss it. But I'm really happy here. I hate Satan, he works on us each day and sometimes it seems like there is no relief but there always is. That's funny about your branch president and the music. I haven't had many experiences like that yet but I'm sure I will. Nothing too funny has been happening, we work a ton which is good and I'm exhausted every night. Tracting is getting easier and I'm starting to enjoy that. I can't imagine what I would be doing if I was home right now. I've already almost been out 2 months hahaha. If I would have been with you at the lake, I would've dove off the top, too. We need to go to Powell when I get back. I'm getting way tan and super blonde(r). The weather is hot hot hot and after it rains, it's even hotter. Tell Crane Carlos says “hi”! I'm happy here!

I'm sure everything will go really well with trek. Bishop Nielson is a great man. I bet your excited for trek! It will go by fast. Just have a good attitude about it and be patient with the kids, I know you will have fun.

We do not live by a Walgreens or Walmart. The closest place we live is a 5 mile bike ride away so we don't really get a chance to go. I will send pictures home when I get a chance. It's sooo busy...we have no time to ourselves really. I will send my letters home, too. I haven't received my package yet, I'm sure I will soon. It seems like it takes forever for mail to get here. Getting mail really does make my day but I only get it once a week if I'm lucky. I have NO time to get me new shoes. None whatsoever, or I would. Stamps would be nice if possible, too. Could I possibly get the shoes half a size smaller?

What else is going on at home? I miss all of you, but I'm happy here. And I know for a fact this is what I need to be doing. I can't imagine myself doing anything else at this point in my life.

Have a good week!!!!

Elder Hudson

Monday, July 11, 2011

My week was pretty good. No stabbing situations, but I did crash on my bike pretty bad. The Lord watches over his missionaries because I definitely could have been hurt worse than what I was. I will send my memory card home asap. I got your package! Thanks so much, I missed my robe. And it was nice to get some treats because we don't have a lot of time to shop and everything is so expensive. Milk and cereal alone costs $13.00. So I don't think I'll be eating much cereal.

We have 4 baptisms this Saturday. A man named Roman Kahala and his sister in law, Ann Marie. They are a marshallese (?) family and they have come a long way. There is a young girl named Laysha who is getting baptized as well. She is 10 and very excited. Then a 20 year old woman named Danielle. She and her already member boyfriend are getting married and then baptized right after the marriage! I think that's pretty cool. I'm definitely starting to like it here. I'm way tan which is great and my hair is getting more blonde. I checked out the blog and I love it, I got a little teary eyed looking at the pictures but this will go by fast. I can't believe I've already been out a month...haha...only 23 more to go.

The mission has already opened my eyes to how evil this world really is. Satan is so real and we see him a lot out here. It definitely made me realize how important it is to honor the Priesthood each and every day that we live. I wish I could go back and never make the mistakes I made. That's what the Atonement is for, and we are so blessed to have the gospel of Jesus Christ in our lives.
I love my area. It's definitely ghetto but I feel very very safe. I know we are protected. I don't like tracting, because everyone is smoking weed or doing meth when we try to teach them. My mission president is an amazing man. He is awesome and so loving.

That's awesome about Derek Jeter. Too bad I missed it! Oh well, I've stopped caring about sports really. I miss music, haha. Everyone is blasting rap music out here in the ghetto. Oh yeah, before I forget, I think my companion is baptizing two of those investigators and I'm baptizing the other two. I think.

Everyone is so chill out here and just don't care what people think. We could use more of that in Riverton/Utah. The two elders my companion and I live with are cool. One is 6'5 from Fiji, and the other is from St. George. He is pretty cool. We are 4 hours behind here so that's why it takes forever for me to email you. P days are just like every other day pretty much. I do have some cool pictures from the ocean - I can't wait to send home. I know this is where I need to be. It just feels right and that's all there is to it. I would maybe like a new pair of the same shoes that I have. We walk a ton too and I can already tell that these shoes won't last a lot longer.

It's crazy how the Lord works on 19 year old boys, Satan works on them, too. If we felt the Spirit all the time, there would be no need for faith. We just need to keep having faith and blessings will come.

Love,

Elder Hudson

First Area ~ Makaha, O'ahu

Aloha!

Ah, I finally get to email everyone. I'm in the ghetto of Hawaii, in a place called Makaha on the west side of O'ahu. I've already been threatened of getting stabbed, but it's ok...I'm ok!!! No need to freak out - it wasn't a big deal.

My companion is Elder Brough from Syracuse, Utah. He is way tight. I like Hawaii, but I'm still adjusting to putting everything behind me and focus on the work. Some days I want to come home, but then I think of you guys and know I need to stay to help others be with their families.

The work is good. We have 14 scheduled baptisms in July and that is just me and my companion. We are leading the zone, and maybe even the mission this month, but we will see what happens. I loved talking to you and dad on the phone. I'm sorry I never spent time with you and dad the way I should have.

How is drill? How is the drama? My address is, and always will be, the mission home in Honolulu. What's new at home? I am already tan, haven't gained any weight because I'm riding a bike about 15 miles a day. We eat way good and I love the food. The ward is awesome and very welcoming. I had to bare my testimony in sacrament meeting because I was the new Elder. It's a very tiny ward. Very, very tiny. I'm picking up the pigeon language pretty well. I know I'll come back talking funny.

I miss everyone. It's still hard adjusting here and everything. I'm having a hard time forgetting myself and losing myself to the mission. My mission president is awesome. A very loving man. People are very open to living the gospel, but I really am in the straight up ghetto. It's pretty scary. I'm going to try and upload pictures right now, but I'm going to send this first in case the computer kicks me off. Thanks for all you do for me. You guys are my strength. I love you!
